HCB Rehearsal Notes Tuesday May 6

Hi all,
For our Kiwanis Music Festival performance on Tuesday night, May 6th:
1) We perform on the Seton stage at the Seton Academic Centre, Mount Saint Vincent University at 7:00 pm. The address is 166 Bedford Highway (see campus map for Seton Academic Centre) www.msvu.ca/en/home/aboutus/safety-security/campusmap.aspx
2) Our performance pieces are Amazing Grace and Windjammer, in that order. Also, I would like to include some chorales for our warm-up so please bring Assorted Chorales and Bride of Assorted Chorales for that. Our adjudicator this year is Emily Bellman who is currently with the Stadacona Band.
3) Meet time is 5:45 pm in the assembly and warm-up area (Rm 509) on the 5th floor of the Centre and the elevator and stairwell are to the left as you enter the lobby. When it is time to take the stage (which I hope is 6 pm), we will enter the performance venue together through Door C.
4) At this point, I have no confirmation from the Festival organizers that music stands will be provided at the venue so I ask all members to bring a music stand for this performance. That includes percussionists and front row woodwinds.
5) Dress is formal concert black.
6) Percussion-the Kiwanis Festival is providing three timpani (29″, 26″ and 24″), vibraphone, xylophone, bass drum, two snare drums with stands, a suspended cymbal and a concert bell set.Everything else will need to be brought to the performance.
7) The public is welcome to attend the performance and there is an admission charge of $5 at the door.
Thanks and see you on Tuesday night. Dave

A special shout-out to Fiona for such fine work with her Wind Ensemble students and all of her other duties and playing that evening. Bravo!! Also, thanks for accommodating the downtown location and the challenges of parking and traffic.

HCB Notes for Monday Rehearsal and Tuesday Concert

Hi everyone,
Here are the comprehensive details for our Monday dress rehearsal (April 14) and Tuesday concert (April 15) downtown.
*PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.*
What we’ve worked out is that we will run a combined massed band run-through of Chasing Sunlight in the cafeteria of Halifax West high school from 6 to 7 PM on Monday evening, April 14th.
We will then dismiss the school group and all members of HCB are asked to stay for another hour, until 8 pm to run our pieces for the concert.
I realize that not everyone will be able to make this dress rehearsal, but it will give us a chance to have a final run through of things before the Tuesday performance. *An important note is that you will ALL need to bring your own music stand to the dress rehearsal on Monday and also the concert on Tuesday.*
There is a real concern about limited parking and traffic congestion downtown on Tuesday afternoon into the supper hour, as well as after our concert because of a Mooseheads hockey playoff game in the Scotiabank Centre that night and I’m sure it will be a capacity crowd. Leave yourself plenty of time to be inside the LightHouse Performance centre for your call time of 5:30.
I would suggest trying to arrange carpooling or having someone drop you off at the venue to reduce or avoid the parking issue. The LightHouse Performance Centre address is 1800 Argyle Street and you will use the main doors to enter. The building is what was formally known as the old World Trade and Convention Center.
Dress for the concert will be all black with the band shirts or black shirt. Also, please try to ensure that you bring at least one person to the concert so that we have a good audience.
The following schedule has been done up by the Halifax Regional Arts folks from the HRCE. Please have a good look at this. I have also attached a pdf of this for your reference.
Thanks and see you Monday (or Tuesday) Dave
