HCB Rehearsal Notes Tuesday January 28

Hi all, As I imagine you all know, we lost our dear friend Mark Cuming this past week. Mark was such a huge part of our musical lives as members of the Halifax Concert Band community over many years and we have lost a mentor, a friend, a colleague, and a supremely talented, musical, and funny man. We will surely miss him a great deal. May he rest in peace.
There is a memorial service this coming Wednesday afternoon at 2 pm at Snow’s on Lacewood Drive. Mark’s wife, Rosemary, has asked me to put together a program of music for his service which I have done. Because there are a number of our members who will be involved in the musical portions of Mark’s service, I would like to shorten Tuesday’s full rehearsal by 30 minutes or so in order to go through that music with those individuals.
For our rehearsal on Tuesday, I would like to start by playing through a number of Mark’s chorales and invite anyone in the band to share any memories and reflections of Mark or stories that you may think of as we go through the evening so please feel free to chime in if and whenever you feel the time is right.
Our rehearsal will be: 1) Chorales-various choices from Mark’s 4 sets of Chorales 2) Warm-up piece-Amazing Grace 3) The Syncopated Clock 4) Postcard from Pittsburgh 5) La Madres de los Gatos 6) Wicked- Beginning to measure 144
Thanks and see you on Tuesday. Dave

Message from Rosemary Cuming

Mark is being moved to palliative care soon, which is devastating.
He enjoys company but worries that people will feel awkward. I think it helps pass the time.
It’s comforting to know that people are willing to help.
If you could please let our HCB family know via email. Much appreciated.
