HCB Rehearsal Notes November 30

Hello everyone
The tunes are finalized now and we’ve addressed the technical aspects of all of the selections. On this next rehearsal, we will run the tunes in order. There will be limited stopping on these and maybe none at all. If we have time after this chore is accomplished, we’ll polish up the rough patches, should any exist (and I doubt that there will be, but who knows?).
Al-l-l-l-l of this needs to be done by 8:15, as it is legally necessary for us to hold an annual general meeting. That will be concluded by 8:30 in all likelihood, because, since the last meeting, very little business has happened because of the pandemic. That means that reports will be very short and not likely to be debated.
A reminder: We have a dress rehearsal on Monday, December 6 at 6:30 in the band room for them that can make it.
Logistical items will need to be addressed for a few minutes this Tuesday in regards to transportation, set up and tear down and such. Look for that around 7:30. Should only take a few minutes to get this together.
That’s it for now, folks. See you Tuesday.

HCB Annual meeting documents

Hi
I am sending you various documents for the Annual Meeting of the Halifax Concert Band on Tuesday November 30, beginning around 8:15 pm. The Annual Meeting is a requirement to maintain our status as a Charitable Society. Thanks for your attention to these documents.

HCB Rehearsal Notes November 23

On the next rehearsal, these things will happen:
The next rehearsal for the Halifax Concert Band is on Tuesday November 23 at 6:30 pm in the Halifax West bandroom.
After the warm up routine, we will review key issues with:
Christmas Spirit Fanfare C’est Noel On This Day Earth Shall Ring.
Next, we’ll review Perla’s 2 Songs
For the rest of the rehearsal, the tunes will be called in order of importance and technical issues and balance issues will be addressed. I guess that all of this rhetoric means that all of us should strive to have the tough passages “under our fingers” by this next rehearsal.
Don’t feel intimidated about asking me how “something goes”. I’ll help you out.
I think that things are shaping up well and this show should be a major success. The next 2 rehearsals are for refining the material.
Speaking of rehearsals, we are arranging to have a dress rehearsal for those who can attend on December 6^th . In the band room, starting at 6:30. More details to come.
Thanks, everyone. M.C.

Halifax Concert Band Message from Musical Director Mark Cuming

Hello, everyone.
I am pleased to denounce the playlist  for our up coming Christmas Concert, slated for December 7.
The next Halifax Concert Band rehearsal is Tuesday October 26 at 6:30 pm in the sanctuary of Hope United Church, 3055 Connaught Ave, Halifax.  There is parking, accessible from Young Street, and there is a door near the parking lot that leads to the sanctuary. Please bring your own stand and a light if you need it.
Anyone who was not there on Tuesday Oct 19 will need to complete a consent form and show proof of full vaccination. Please arrive early enough to complete documentation and to be ready to play at 6:30.
We’ll start working on these items on the next rehearsal. To keep things simple and easy for all of us, I have relied on grinding up some of our old chestnuts as well as adding 2 new vocal and band charts.
Here are the titles:
On This Day the Earth Shall Sing Old Brenton Carol (These 2 will form kind of a Holst fest). C’est Noel (This will be the opener, after the fanfare) Sleigh Ride Carol of the Drum Ave Maria All I Want for Christmas is You Christmas Spirit Fanfare (aka General Use Fanfare) Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree (New! Featuring Perla) Merry Christmas Darling (New! Featuring Perla) Gleeful Christmas (We may or may not use this one).
I can also tell you that there will be a clarinet quintet on the show (organized by Pat). But wait! There’s more! We will have a preshow appearance by the All City Boy’s Honour Choir. They will have a featured segment in the show too.
Things are starting to take shape. The next issue is to secure our instrumentation and then, hopefully, move back into Hfx. West. Thank-you all for your help. A big thank-you to Becky for securing the current rehearsal space and to Debbie and Pat for arranging to retrieve our repertoire from the Bella Rose Theatre.
See you Tuesday night.
